As the bright winter sunshine lights up the days here at Praia D'El Rey and the new year begins, so it's natural that we celebrate the successes of 2007 and look ahead to 2008. 2007 saw us win two important awards, "Best European Golf Resort" (awarded by leading golf tour operators) and "Portugal's Leading Resort" from the World Travel Awards. As a result the resort is busier than ever. Over the last few weeks our Marriott hotel has been proud to welcome several prestigious congress groups, among them senior officers from the European Union's leading police forces, who gathered here for a three day summit meeting to discuss their joint fight against terrorism. For the third year running, Portugal's national football squad also came to train on our FIFA-accredited football ground. Golfers who've played the Praia D'El Rey course will know we are regularly ranked not just among Portugal's top courses, but among Europe's top courses. Danish tour operators have just voted us among the top 10 courses in Europe, and we've also just learned that the US's prestigious The Golfer magazine has now ranked us among their Top 10 in Continental Europe. And that's not all. Famous US golfer Greg Norman has just written the foreword to a new book, Planet Golf (ed. Darius Oliver 2007) which defines the "great golf courses outside the USA". Regular visitors to Praia D'El Rey will know that last summer the first owners took possession of their new homes in Vila da Praia, which looks set to become the resort's main social hub once construction of the new Piazza is complete in mid 2009. Here there will be two restaurants, a pastelaria and shops, all under the management of the resort's experienced catering staff. This is a joint venture between Beltico S.A. (owners of Praia D'El
Rey) and Atlantic Estates, a well-known Portuguese sales agent with a
network of 5 offices around Lisbon and the Algarve. "I've already sold
10 resale properties on behalf of owners in the last 3 months," says
Andreia, "And this year's targeted marketing plan should bring in yet
more interested buyers during 2008". News of Owners' Events Back in the UK in late November 2007, Praia D'El Rey owners gathered for a Portuguese wine tasting in central London hosted by wine expert and broadcaster Charles Metcalfe and key staff from the resort. Apart from learning about wine, many owners learned about each other, as the event served to introduce new friends and reunite old ones.
